Style with a Capital “S”

August 25th 2006 01:00
Kaufman House
Palm Springs exudes style with a capital “S”. In a Hollywood tradition flocks of the rich and famous have been playing in the Desert since Cary Grant made it hip in the 50’s. They head there like metal to a magnet. In a long heritage of glitz and glam and houses decked out like the ones in ‘I Love Lucy’. Its little surprise architects are so excited about the building boom.

The desert contemporary designs are based on mid-century principles without being kitschy or nostalgic about mid-century modernism. New modernism is taking root in the desert that will be as appealing as anything built during the golden age of the '50s and '60s, without copying its outward forms. To the delight of the architects and builders Palm Springs is full of people with great budgets and they serve to be a savvy audience really to appreciate modern stuff.

For famous architecture trail, check these hot spots - Kaufman House, Albert Frey and Elrod House.

Then when your hungry check out Cary Grant's bungalow which he brought for when his friends came to stay - Copley's restaurant in Palm Springs.

Then when its time to rest - do it in style...If you're rich enough, rent the home built for Frank Sinatra in 1947 by local architect Stewart Williams.

All sounds like fun in a big Hollywood playround to me!

P.S Let me know if you've been to PS..

The Panty Post Man

August 24th 2006 00:08
Egyptian cotton, diptique candles and Frank Sinatra are all ideal for a girl in a little need of relaxation and a bit of ‘me’ time. Let’s face it, life is hectic. Racing in the fast lane, can leave you tired and run down. So what’s a girl to do?

My advice, treat yourself.

Did you know the average life span of a pair of panties is only three months? That’s a pretty high turn over. For a working girl, who’s got time to purchase panties all the time? No fear, Panty Postman will delivery to your door.

There is definitely something sexy about a Postman who delivers your goods. I’m thinking tall dark handsome Telenovela style lad. Hmm, I could definitely afford the luxury of those.

You can also have them delivered to your work, just in case you sleep the night somewhere else! That way, you’ll avoid any panty problems in the future.

Household Names

Household Names - Doing for Themselves...

Rock band KISS has a new one, Franics Ford has had his for years, Jamie Oliver is launching one and Oliva Newton John has brought hers home.

It seems its not good enough to be a big names these days without putting your name to some thing. For these celebrities it ranges from owning your own café, restaurant, retreat and even a vineyard.

If for a second you thought it was just about the music and movies you couldn' t be further from the truth. When you have talent combined with entrepreneurial flair it's little wonder these dynamites are launching themselves in the business world.

We know money can only get you so far, so the big questions is how do these celebrities manage to do it - and do it right? When we mere mortals are thinking about the ironing and cooking

Browse & Buy Before you Fly

August 20th 2006 23:10

Nothing quite beats the feeling, knowing that you have out smarted the system in some way or another. For a traveller these days, there are more ways to bag a bargain than arriving in a country just in time for the sales. If you get the know-how before you depart, you will find yourself with some extra cash at the end of the day.

The Best Boat is – Someone else’s

August 19th 2006 02:48
Where else in the world can you go by water to buy a bag of fresh King Prawns? Or do the sailor wave to a ferry of people? With the wind in my hair, cruising in a boat I wouldn’t dare call my own – I found myself basking in the Sydney sun amongst the other yachts and boats in Sydney Harbour.

The perfect way to spend a Saturday afternoon amongst Sydney’s elite can always be relied upon by the waters of Sydney. It’s an anecdote well known back in offices on a Monday morning. The inquisitive colleague asks so “What did you do this weekend?” And the oh so casual response is “we went out on so and so’s boat this weekend”. It’s all truly wonderful, apart for the person that actually owns the boat. Which means maintenance, petrol, boat licenses and the list goes on. After all the best boats is – someone else’s

Name Dropping

Dorothy, the quintessential jet-setter returned with one simple conviction: There’s no place like home. Fortunately, for Dorothy she had her trusted red shoes to get her home, but what about modern day women?

Forget street maps, bad signage and stopping for directions. A girl’s best friend has arrived. The newest gadget on the market aimed at women is the Buddy from Intempo Digital. The metallic pink outer casing can be popped on your dashboard and will easily take you from A to B without getting lost
