Style with a Capital “S”

Palm Springs exudes style with a capital “S”. In a Hollywood tradition flocks of the rich and famous have been playing in the Desert since Cary Grant made it hip in the 50’s. They head there like metal to a magnet. In a long heritage of glitz and glam and houses decked out like the ones in ‘I Love Lucy’. Its little surprise architects are so excited about the building boom.
The desert contemporary designs are based on mid-century principles without being kitschy or nostalgic about mid-century modernism. New modernism is taking root in the desert that will be as appealing as anything built during the golden age of the '50s and '60s, without copying its outward forms. To the delight of the architects and builders Palm Springs is full of people with great budgets and they serve to be a savvy audience really to appreciate modern stuff.
For famous architecture trail, check these hot spots - Kaufman House, Albert Frey and Elrod House.
Then when your hungry check out Cary Grant's bungalow which he brought for when his friends came to stay - Copley's restaurant in Palm Springs.
Then when its time to rest - do it in style...If you're rich enough, rent the home built for Frank Sinatra in 1947 by local architect Stewart Williams.
All sounds like fun in a big Hollywood playround to me!
P.S Let me know if you've been to PS..
