Downunder Insurance
August 2nd 2010 06:25
Following up my post about domestic travel insurance, I'd like to talk about Downunder Insurance today.
They offer 12-month insurance starting at AUD 325 (GBP 189, NZD 410) to Australia and New Zealand. They work with citizens of these two countries, plus Brits as well. In Australia and UK you can get 10% off, so watch out for that!
Downunder Insurance is one of the top options for people interested in a Working Holiday program. In fact, they specialize in backpackers and gap-year breaks, too. They cover more than 60 adventure sports.
You can also get coverage for a stopover in Asia, as long as you spend at least 75% of your trip in Australia/NZ. By doing this you don't need to buy worldwide coverage.
They truly understand the needs of this crowd. Downunder has been in the travel insurance business for over 10 years -- staff is Aussie and Kiwi.
One restriction, though, is the age limit: 55 y.o.
They offer good medical coverage (AUD 3,500,000), cancellation or curtailment reimbursement (AUD 1,700), loss of luggage or any belongings (AUD 1,700, with a AUD 170 limit for single items), loss of travel documents (AUD 40), personal liability coverage (AUD 3,500,000), personal accidents (AUD 26,000), and legal expenses (AUD 8,500).
If you want to work, most activities are covered. However, they will not cover manual labor above ground or the use of heavy machinery. Fruit picking is ok because it isn't considered manual labor, which means you can work with ladders.
Downunder Insurance can be very useful for Aussies looking for Australia travel insurance, and also for Brits and Kiwis. Make sure to check them out!
