The Best Boat is – Someone else’s

Where else in the world can you go by water to buy a bag of fresh King Prawns? Or do the sailor wave to a ferry of people? With the wind in my hair, cruising in a boat I wouldn’t dare call my own – I found myself basking in the Sydney sun amongst the other yachts and boats in Sydney Harbour.
The perfect way to spend a Saturday afternoon amongst Sydney’s elite can always be relied upon by the waters of Sydney. It’s an anecdote well known back in offices on a Monday morning. The inquisitive colleague asks so “What did you do this weekend?” And the oh so casual response is “we went out on so and so’s boat this weekend”. It’s all truly wonderful, apart for the person that actually owns the boat. Which means maintenance, petrol, boat licenses and the list goes on. After all the best boats is – someone else’s.
After all it’s not easy backing a trailer down a pier, nor would I know what to do if one of the engines conked it or better yet what the legal speed limit is. After all girls are just the eye candy on a days outing – sad but true.
Thankfully we all returned safely with bellies full of prawns and tanned glowing skin.
King Prawns from The Sydney Fish Markets $23.50 per/kg.
Not yet friends with the Packers or Murdoch’s? You can always hire a boat from the Rose Bay Marina for $90/hr http://sydneyharbourescapes.com.au/selfdrive.asp Or better yet, catch the ferry for a respectable $4.80!
